CHILDREN'S ADVOCACY EVENTS
Children's Advocacy is planning to launch its annual fundraiser in 2006. We are currently seeking sponsors for this event and if you are interested, please contact Diane Connell for more information.
Children's Advocacy Center has been fortunate to have the support of individuals and businesses in the community and annually the following events are held to raise both funds and awareness in the community.
The Realtors Association of Greater Fort Myers and the Beach hold a dinner dance, $10,000 draw, live auction, Chinese auction and silent auction for Children's Advocacy and other charities. Sanibel Harbour Resort and Spa has been the location for this event for the past two years.
Auction items include trips, golf foursomes, jewelry, art, dinner packages, spa packages and various other items donated by local businesses. Sponsorships are available and run from advertising on the announcement of the event, advertising on the program and dinner tickets to the event. If you are interested in supporting or attending this event, please contact Beth Drouin.
The Fiddlesticks community runs their Bobby Nicholls Golf Tournament in February. Funds raised from the tournament, dinner and auction are shared with Children's Advocacy Center. The center was able to have a new medical room built from the proceeds of this tournament.

Annually at Christmas, Children's Advocacy Center works with businesses and individuals in the community to help our children and families have a happy holiday. This year 94.5 Classic Rock collected stuffed animals, toys, books and games at Sutherlin Nissan for our children. We like to give all our kids something, especially at Christmas to hold onto when they visit us because
the children we see have had some kind of traumatic experience in their life. It is
of utmost importance to us that all the children that visit our agency feel safe and loved.
The agency also runs our Adopt-A-Family campaign at Christmas. We obtain the names of less fortunate families who are receiving services and an individual or business adopts the family. Adopting the family entails obtaining the family's wish list that contains items, such as clothing and toys, ages and sizes that the family would like for Christmas. It is important to note that "wish lists" are only ideas that may or may not be purchased. It is left up to the individual or family to decide what to buy. This is an extremely gratifying time for everyone involved. Last year we were able to adopt 42 families and one of our donors was a little girl who felt she had enough toys and wanted to share.
April is Child Abuse Awareness/Prevention Month. At this time, you may see ads in bus kiosks throughout the community promoting this cause. The center usually has items available to purchase at this time. This year we have the blue plastic bracelets for sale, with Kids Can't Be Beat engraved on them. There are still bracelets available and if you are interested in purchasing bracelets, please contact us at 939-2808 or via e-mail at www.cac-swfl.org.
Prevent Child Abuse license plates are also available. The tag costs an additional $25.00, all of which goes to child abuse prevention and intervention programs in Florida. You may purchase it any time or when it's time to renew your tag. Every hour, 15 children in Florida are abused or neglected and last year 132,522 children were abused or neglected in Florida alone.
