The heat in Southwest Florida comes as no surprise, especially in the summer months.
With near-record highs expected this weekend in Southwest Florida, the Children’s Advocacy Center of Southwest Florida is partnering up with the Fort Myers Fire Department to share the important message: Look Before You Lock.
Fort Myers Fire Department shared photos on social media of their fire truck, which reiterates the dangers of leaving children in hot vehicles.
When the outside temperature reaches the mid to upper 90s, as it is this weekend, the temperature inside a vehicle reaches nearly 150 degrees.
In only ten minutes, the temperature inside a car can rise 20 degrees. Sunlight enters through the windows and traps the heat inside, quickly building up because the hot air can’t easily escape.
